In Baltic folklore, there is an reoccurring theme surrounding talismanic comb, a magic amulet to fight off the wicked.
In these legends, if the protagonist is chased by a witch, he drops a tiny comb pendant over his shoulder and a forest rises up in it's place. The vicious then become trapped forever amid the trees.
Magic combs actually existed and people carried them around for protection and good luck. Some of the oldest combs discovered date as far back to the 7th-9th centuries.
